Lyulin mayor fires back as trash piles linger
Lyulin district mayor Georgi Todorov said he has not advocated publicly or privately for any particular approach to waste management agreements. His statement responds to Mayor Vasil Terziev’s suggestion that municipal officials should accept a proposal from a contractor offering services at double the anticipated cost. Todorov told a television audience that resident safety must remain paramount regardless of political disputes, urging officials to stop treating sanitation as a partisan issue.
The district administrator acknowledged that inspectors and service providers are working hard, but acknowledged that outcomes fall short of community expectations. Lyulin requires daily collection from 1,500 general household bins to prevent accumulation. Currently, six to eight vehicles from the municipal waste plant handle the neighborhood, a number theoretically adequate for routine operations. However, each receptacle receives attention only every two or three days rather than daily.
Todorov reported that conditions are gradually improving, but residents continue observing collection standards below acceptable thresholds. The district contains approximately 130,000 people across its residential areas.
