Ninova blasts MPs for cashing in as others struggle

Kornelia Ninova says members of parliament should reject automatic quarterly salary adjustments linked to national wage averages while debating budget measures that affect working citizens. The leader of Unruly Bulgaria posted her criticism on Tuesday to social media, arguing that legislators and approximately 400 other officials receiving similar compensation lack moral authority to support policies targeting wage earners.

Ninova pointed out that lawmakers regularly oppose tying various payments to average earnings despite benefiting from that formula themselves. Recipients of index-linked salaries include staff at energy regulators, constitutional judges, financial supervisors, and executive branch agencies. She characterized these increases as unearned and called for immediate suspension.

The politician referenced legislation she introduced in 2018 that would have reduced and frozen parliamentary pay at 2,976 leva. GERB party members blocked that proposal on four occasions during her time in the National Assembly. Ninova urged current deputies to reconsider her archived bill and address what she describes as persistent inequity in government compensation practices.
