Malawi makes bold economic pitch at Expo 2025 Osaka
At Expo 2025 Osaka, Malawi made a powerful statement. As one of 167 countries, Malawi used the global stage to show that it is ready for business and poised to compete economically. The Malawi Investment and Trade Centre (MITC) led the country’s presence, focusing on attracting investment in key sectors like agro-processing, renewable energy, and mineral value addition.
Malawi’s National Day was a highlight, with a blend of cultural performances and a strong commercial message. MITC Director General Kruger Phiri presented Malawi as a hub for sustainable economic growth, backed by clear opportunities. Partnerships were key, especially with Japan, where Malawi forged stronger ties, including a notable visit from Toyota Tsusho Corporation.
The country also secured a digital trade pathway to Japan for its exports, enhancing market access for products like Mzuzu Coffee and Satemwa Tea. Through its collaboration with Seibo Japan, Malawi showcased how business can align with humanitarian efforts, reinforcing its commitment to ethical trade.
Malawi’s presence at Expo 2025 not only raised its global profile but also opened doors for investment and trade, signaling that the country is ready to thrive on the world stage.
