Malaysia thanks Türkiye for securing release of activists detained by Israel
Malaysia has thanked Türkiye for its vital role in securing the release and safe return of nine Malaysian activists detained by Israel during the Freedom Flotilla Coalition and Thousand Madleens to Gaza (FFC x TMTG) mission on October 8. Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Dr Zulkifli Hasan credited the strong relationship between Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for the volunteers’ release on October 10, bringing them to Istanbul.
“We are grateful to Allah for the successful return of the volunteers,” Zulkifli said at a press conference. He also expressed thanks to other friendly nations for their diplomatic support. The release was a result of coordinated efforts from various Malaysian ministries, departments, and agencies, including MyCARE.
The nine activists, including eight Malaysians, boarded Turkish Airlines flight TK60 and arrived back at Kuala Lumpur International Airport on Sunday afternoon. The volunteers were part of a humanitarian mission that faced challenges while detained in Israel.
