Nanta calls for better fire equipment after longhouse blaze in Song

Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi has called for improved disaster readiness, especially fire-fighting equipment in longhouse areas. This came after a devastating fire on September 28 destroyed a longhouse in Nanga Sipan, Song, leaving 81 residents homeless.

Speaking at a review meeting at Rumah Austin Ekau today, Nanta stressed that fire safety equipment in these areas is inadequate and needs urgent attention. He also urged the Fire and Rescue Department and other agencies to carry out regular inspections and report any gaps.

The government has committed financial aid, including RM70,000 per door for new homes and RM10,000 for temporary shelters. Additionally, Nanta and Katibas assemblyman Lidam Assan each donated RM1,000 per door to support the rebuilding efforts. Nanta announced an extra RM10,000 per door, bringing total contributions to RM290,000 to help residents rebuild their homes and restore their lives.
