SAR operation for missing Chinese tourists off Mantanani called off

The search for two missing Chinese tourists off Mantanani Island, Kota Belud, has officially ended today, with the operation suspended pending new leads. The Sabah Fire and Rescue Department confirmed that periodic patrols will continue, led by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA).

The search, which lasted a week, involved 95 personnel from various agencies, including the Royal Malaysia Police, Marine Police, and the Malaysian Civil Defence Force, along with local villagers and resort operators who played a key role in the effort.

The two tourists, Yu Xiapeng, 25, and Fan Qin, 28, went missing on October 5 after failing to be located while staying at the Sutera Mantanani Resort in Kota Belud. Despite intensive efforts, they have not been found.
