Man jailed after brutal slap leaves woman with skull fracture
Prosecutors in Sofia have charged a 56-year-old man with assault after he struck a woman following a minor traffic collision, causing her to sustain a skull fracture. The accused, identified as P.P., allegedly slapped the victim around 2:30 p.m. on Thursday on Bulgaria Boulevard, sending her to the pavement and inflicting serious injuries. Authorities say the defendant displayed hostility toward the woman in the aftermath of their roadway encounter.
Officials characterized the attack as an act of hooliganism that violated public order and demonstrated contempt for others. Investigators filed charges under criminal statutes carrying potential imprisonment ranging from two years to a decade. Prosecutors ordered P.P. held for up to 72 hours while they prepare documentation.
On Sunday, the supervising prosecutor plans to request that a judge impose pretrial detention to keep the suspect behind bars during legal proceedings. The case centers on allegations that P.P. caused moderate physical harm through violence committed with disregard for community standards in a populated area.
