Maritime security drills to block sea, air traffic in Andaman
Myanmar’s military will conduct maritime security drills from Nov. 10 through Nov. 14 in northern Andaman Sea waters, with operations spanning surface vessels, aircraft, and submarines, along with weapons testing. Authorities established a rectangular training zone bounded by four coordinate points, with maritime and aviation alerts already distributed to regional operators.
All watercraft, ranging from commercial cargo vessels to small fishing craft, face strict entry prohibitions during the five days. Vessels cannot enter, anchor, or deploy equipment within five nautical miles of the designated boundaries. Aviation restrictions bar fixed-wing aircraft and rotorcraft from flying beneath 15,000 feet altitude over the training area while exercises proceed.
Officials identified the perimeter using latitude and longitude markers at 12 degrees 51 minutes north by 96 degrees 40 minutes east for the northwestern corner, extending eastward and southward to create the operational box. The temporary exclusion zone aims to prevent civilian traffic from encountering live fire activities or military maneuvers during the scheduled exercises.
