Martha Koome appoints over 200 magistrates for specialized cases
Chief Justice Martha Koome has appointed over 200 magistrates to handle specialized cases in Kenya, including corruption, economic crimes, environmental disputes, and labor relations. The appointments, announced in Gazette Notices on October 10 and 19, 2025, are part of ongoing reforms to improve judicial efficiency and speed up case resolution.
Among the appointments, six magistrates will focus on anti-corruption and economic crimes, while 58 will handle environment and land disputes. A larger group of 144 magistrates will oversee employment and labor relations cases, particularly those involving contracts where employees earn less than Sh 80,000 monthly. These appointments aim to reduce backlogs and ensure expertise in handling complex, sector-specific issues.
