Mass graves glare from space over El Fasher
Satellite photographs reveal mass killings in El-Fasher after Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces seized the North Darfur capital following an 18-month siege. Yale University’s Humanitarian Research Lab examined images from orbit showing bodies and bloodstains in the Al-Daraja district.
More than 2,000 civilians died in executions after RSF fighters overran the city on October 26 and 27, witnesses reported. Attackers conducted raids and shot residents trying to escape, according to local defense groups and video evidence.
The research lab identified body clusters near RSF vehicles and fortifications. Director Nathaniel Raymond said the violence surpasses anything he has documented in Darfur, calling the evidence consistent with ethnic cleansing and war crimes.
El-Fasher was the army’s final major position in Darfur before falling over the weekend. About 250,000 people had sheltered there before mass displacement toward southern regions began.
