Mbappe and Bellingham lead Real Madrid past Barca
Real Madrid defeated Barcelona 2-1 on Sunday to end a four-game losing streak against their rivals and extend their lead in LaLiga. Kylian Mbappe scored first in the 22nd minute after receiving a pass from Jude Bellingham, but Fermin Lopez equalized before halftime when Arda Guler made an error.
Bellingham restored the advantage five minutes later by finishing a cross from Vinicius Jr. Goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny kept Barcelona competitive by stopping a Mbappe penalty early in the second half and making several other saves.
Barcelona midfielder Pedri received his second yellow card in stoppage time for tackling Aurelien Tchouameni from behind. Tensions escalated when Vinicius Jr. reacted angrily to his substitution and later became involved in a confrontation that required police intervention.
Real Madrid climbed to 27 points at the top of the standings, five points ahead of Barcelona. The victory marked an important turnaround for manager Xabi Alonso after consecutive losses to Barcelona in three competitions.
