Min Aung Hlaing hosts lavish Tazaungdine bash

Myanmar’s military leader, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, presided over award presentations on Tuesday night for traditional Tazaungdine festival competitions held at a Buddhist site in the capital. The Acting President and State Security and Peace Commission Chairman attended alongside government officials and a visiting Russian regional delegation at the Maravijaya Buddha Garden fountain plaza in Dekkhinathiri Township.

Participants competed in hot-air balloon releases and ceremonial robe weaving events during the three-day festival from Nov. 2-4. Winners from the Nay Pyi Taw Development Committee claimed top honors in one balloon category, while the Ministry of Social Welfare team won another division. A Mandalay Region textile group earned first place in the robe competition. Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and commission leadership distributed trophies and monetary prizes across multiple award categories.

The evening’s observances featured religious rituals at the Buddha image, ethnic dance performances and a friendship balloon release with Novosibirsk Governor Andrey Aleksandrovich Travnikov. Fireworks concluded the celebration after the awards were presented. The festival grounds showcased products from local businesses, traditional foods and cultural presentations while prayer groups lit thousands of candles throughout the Buddhist complex.
