Min Aung Hlaing vows quake cash rush

Myanmar’s military leader called for the rapid implementation of public service projects as the government prepares earthquake recovery funding at a financial meeting on Tuesday. Senior General Min Aung Hlaing told officials that education, health care and transportation initiatives must proceed without delay.

The Finance Commission reviewed supplementary budget proposals for the 2025-2026 fiscal year. Authorities redirected 2.07 trillion kyat from unused ministry allocations to the National Disaster Management Fund for rebuilding infrastructure damaged by the Mandalay earthquake.

Min Aung Hlaing emphasized agriculture’s role as the economic foundation for most citizens. He directed officials to support farming-based industries and small enterprises to strengthen the economy and reduce import dependence.

The military chief warned against wasting time and resources. He ordered regional leaders to spend approved funds efficiently and to return surplus funds promptly at year’s end, rather than holding them unnecessarily.
