MPO teachers block Dhaka’s Shahbagh intersection over demands

Teachers and staff from MPO-listed schools blocked the Shahbagh intersection in Dhaka on Wednesday afternoon to demand higher allowances. They wanted the house rent allowance to be 20%, a medical allowance of Tk1,500, and a 75% festival allowance for non-teaching staff. After blocking traffic for over two hours, they left the intersection around 4:45 pm and marched to the Central Shaheed Minar. The government offered a 10% increase in house rent, but the protesters rejected it and said they would announce their next plan at the Shaheed Minar.
