Murkomen says police recruitment delay will soon end legally

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has assured Kenyans that the ongoing delay in recruiting new police officers will soon be resolved through legal means. He stated that the government is committed to ensuring the recruitment proceeds without violating court orders, adding that discussions are ongoing between the Interior Ministry, the National Police Service, and the Police Service Commission to find a legal solution.

Murkomen also revealed that the upcoming recruitment will include affirmative action measures to promote inclusivity, particularly for marginalized regions. The proposal includes reviewing entry qualifications for recruits from disadvantaged areas and providing direct slots for members of smaller communities. The recruitment process has been temporarily halted due to a court case filed by former legislator Harun Mwau, which has led to a legal setback for the National Police Service.
