18 missing after deadly explosion at Tennessee munitions plant

A massive explosion at a munitions factory in Bucksnort, Tennessee, on Friday has left 18 people unaccounted for, and authorities fear no survivors. Recovery teams are still hopeful, but Sheriff Chris Davis of Humphreys County stated that they assume the missing are deceased. The cause of the explosion at Accurate Energetic Systems, which manufactures explosives, is still unknown.

The blast caused widespread destruction, with fires still burning and debris scattered for half a mile. More than 300 first responders have searched the site without finding survivors. The FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms are investigating, while DNA tests are being conducted to identify victims. This is not the first explosion at the site; a fatal incident occurred in 2014. Local residents reported hearing the blast and witnessed emergency vehicles flooding the area. The tragedy has deeply affected the tight-knit community, where many people are employed at the plant.
