Myanmar and Egypt sign MoU to boost agricultural cooperation

Myanmar and Egypt formalized an agricultural partnership agreement on Monday, Oct. 28, at Egypt’s Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation headquarters in Cairo. Egyptian Deputy Minister Mostafa El-Sayed and Myanmar’s Agriculture Department Director-General Ye Tint Htun signed the document while Agriculture Minister Alaa Farouk and Myanmar Ambassador Kyaw Tin Shein observed the ceremony. This marks the second such accord between the nations, with the initial pact dating back to 1994.

The framework addresses technology transfers, research collaboration and capacity development programs while promoting environmentally sustainable farming methods. Officials discussed potential trade arrangements involving Egyptian fertilizer and pesticide shipments to Myanmar alongside Myanmar exports of beans, rice and marine products to Egypt. Joint training initiatives form another component, with plans to send personnel for specialized instruction in cotton and potato cultivation, facilitate expert exchanges between both countries and provide access to EICA educational courses.

Both governments aim to expand agricultural commerce and establish enduring cooperative relationships through this bilateral commitment.
