Myanmar pushes blue trade at India meet
Myanmar’s deputy transport minister joined maritime officials from nine nations at a shipping conference in Mumbai that runs through Friday. U Aung Kyaw Tun addressed port infrastructure upgrades, cargo supply chains, and workforce training at the India Maritime Week 2025 event that opened on Monday at the NESCO Exhibition Center.
The official highlighted Myanmar’s ports in Yangon, Thilawa and Kyaukpyu as strategic connections between South and Southeast Asian markets. He said the India-Myanmar Coastal Shipping Agreement will establish new trade routes and improve regional links.
Myanmar trains maritime workers to meet International Maritime Organization standards. The nation works with ASEAN and BIMSTEC partners to develop shipping trade across the Bay of Bengal region.
India’s ports ministry organized the gathering to attract investment in maritime transport operations. Representatives discussed passenger cruise economies, carbon emissions reduction, digital technology adoption and security measures for Indo-Pacific port development.
