Myanmar pushes for China energy ties at forum
Myanmar’s Union Minister for Electric Power, U Nyan Tun, joined the International Forum on Energy Transition 2025 in Suzhou, China, on Thursday. The National Energy Administration of China and the International Renewable Energy Agency organized the conference.
U Nyan Tun addressed delegates about environmental challenges and energy security as global priorities. He emphasized Myanmar’s commitment to renewable energy initiatives, from large carbon-reduction programs to smaller clean-energy ventures, including nuclear power.
The minister met with National Energy Administration Chairman Wang Hongzhi to discuss expanding bilateral partnerships. Both nations plan to advance hydropower development, cross-border transmission infrastructure and joint electricity generation programs.
Chinese officials, Francesco La Camela from IRENA, and Jiangsu Governor Liu Qitao delivered opening remarks at the forum.
