Myanmar pushes green goals at Eco Expo
Myanmar’s environment minister joined regional officials at a Hong Kong sustainability conference that opened on Wednesday to discuss climate action and green technology. U Khin Maung Yi told attendees that his nation follows biodiversity protection strategies aligned with the Paris Agreement commitments to cut carbon emissions by 2030.
The three-day Eco Expo Asia brought together government representatives to examine renewable energy systems and waste management approaches. Hong Kong Environment Secretary TSE Chin-wan hosted the event at Asia World-Expo through Thursday.
Myanmar has adopted a national plastics management plan and a waste reduction framework to combat pollution. The government established forest reserves and conservation zones to support natural ecosystems while developing low-carbon investment policies.
Participants toured displays showing electric vehicles, hydrogen transport technology and methods to convert agricultural waste into power. Technical sessions covered carbon markets, climate adaptation planning and energy-efficient construction standards for commercial buildings.
