Myanmar, Russia cadets face off in shooting contest
Military cadets from Myanmar and Russia competed in marksmanship events from Nov. 1 through Nov. 3 at a firing facility operated by the army officer academy near Bahtoo.
Vice-Chief of Armed Forces Training Maj-Gen Aung Myo Thant joined senior commanders and assessment panels for the inaugural competition at the 600-meter ASEAN range. Russian delegation head Lt-Col Andrey Semenenko and Deputy Military Attache Lt-Col Aleksei Oleinikov accompanied their nation’s participants. Trainees from both countries tested their abilities in rifle accuracy at 300 meters and handgun precision at 25 meters across the three-day schedule. Officials distributed recognition to top performers during the closing ceremonies that followed the final round.
Organizers designed the bilateral contest to deepen defense cooperation between the two nations while allowing young officers to share tactical knowledge and build personal connections. Russian visitors also toured regional attractions during their stay, viewing the Aungmyay Sakkya Mingala Pagoda and natural springs while shopping at Yaksawk Myoma market. The delegation observed residents participating in traditional Kathina religious observances before departing.
