Myanmar, Russia discuss tourism, culture, air links

Myanmar government officials met with a Russian regional leader on Monday to discuss expanding cultural and tourism ties between the two nations.

Andrey Travnikov, who leads the Novosibirsk Oblast province, headed the Russian delegation that gathered with Myanmar cabinet members at a Nay Pyi Taw hotel. Discussions centered on establishing new flight connections to boost visitor traffic, coordinating efforts between carriers and tourism promotion agencies from both countries. The sides also examined plans for a joint cultural information center, arrangements linking the national libraries of both nations, and agreements for future collaboration in culinary traditions and the arts.

U Tin Oo Lwin, the union minister overseeing religious and cultural affairs, gave Travnikov a ceremonial present at the conclusion of talks. Transport and Communications Minister U Mya Tun Oo joined the dialogue alongside deputy ministers U Ko Ko Kyaw, Daw Nu Mra Zan, and U Phyo Zaw Soe. Additional staff from several government departments participated in the session. Both delegations indicated interest in sustained engagement through tourism trade shows held annually in Russia and moving forward with previously signed memorandums covering bilateral partnerships.
