Napoli top Serie A after beating Inter Milan 3-1
Napoli defeated Inter Milan 3-1 on Saturday to claim the top position in Serie A despite Kevin de Bruyne sustaining an injury after converting a penalty kick. The victory moved Napoli one point ahead of AC Milan, who drew with Pisa on Friday night to reach 17 points.
De Bruyne scored his fourth league goal since joining from Manchester City but pulled his hamstring and required assistance leaving the field. Scott McTominay added a second goal before Hakan Calhanoglu responded from the penalty spot for Inter Milan.
Andre-Frank Anguissa sealed the result with a third goal for Napoli. The hosts rebounded after losing two of their previous three league matches and suffering a heavy defeat to PSV Eindhoven earlier in the week.
Atalanta maintained their unbeaten record but sit in eighth place after drawing 1-1 at Cremonese. Marco Brescianini equalized two minutes after entering as a substitute, canceling out Jamie Vardy’s first Serie A goal.
