Over 5.2 million farmers benefit from FPOs in India
Over 5.2 million farmers in India are now part of Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), thanks to government efforts to boost their earnings and productivity. Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan proudly announced that more than 1,100 FPOs are helping farmers secure better prices and improve crop yields. The FPOs have generated a massive Rs 15,000 crore in turnover, and Chouhan is determined to bring even more farmers into the fold.
FPOs work by pooling resources, giving farmers the power to buy inputs in bulk and negotiate better prices. The government’s goal is to create 10,000 FPOs by 2025, with a whopping ₹6,865 crore allocated to this effort.
Addressing the issue of counterfeit products, Chouhan slammed fake fertilisers and substandard seeds as “a betrayal” to farmers, vowing that the government would continue its crackdown on such illegal activities.
