PDF blasts cripple key Ayeyawady link
Insurgents destroyed a major bridge spanning the Ayeyawady River by detonating explosives early on Tuesday morning. The blast severed the Yadanatheinkha crossing between the Mandalay and Sagaing regions, halting vehicle and commercial traffic.
The attack occurred at approximately 6:10 a.m. when armed groups planted mines that damaged concrete sections between support columns. The 2,480-foot structure connected the townships of Singu and Kyaungmyoung along a public highway used by civilian travelers and merchants.
Local residents criticized the sabotage as harmful to community welfare and regional commerce. Government engineers plan to begin repairs promptly to restore the crossing, which opened in July 2013 after three years of construction.
