Possible tornado hits Fort Worth, Texas, amid storms
Storm chasers reported a potentially unwarned tornado south of downtown Fort Worth on Friday as severe weather swept through North and Central Texas. Meteorologist Max Velocity and his chase team observed damaging winds from a storm system that spawned other tornadoes across the region earlier in the day.
Fort Worth fire departments addressed downed power lines, structure fires, water rescues and widespread outages as the severe weather passed through the area. The National Weather Service had not issued a tornado warning for the storm, though some residents heard emergency sirens activate in their neighborhoods.
Weather officials placed parts of North and Central Texas under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch through midnight. Forecasters warned of destructive winds reaching 70 to 75 mph, hail measuring up to 1.5 inches in diameter and possible tornadoes developing from the unstable atmospheric conditions.
