Potato prices up in Myanmar as festival demand rises
Myanmar potato growers are experiencing favorable market conditions as seasonal festivities, including Kathina ceremonies, drive consumer purchasing beyond typical baseline levels, according to representatives from the Naungtaya Potato Association. Supply constraints have emerged during this period between harvests, with spring plantings exhausted by autumn and late-summer crops not yet mature for collection, creating temporary scarcity despite elevated demand.
December should mark the return of fresh harvests, with production peaks anticipated through March that will stabilize pricing and availability to customary ranges. Association officials indicated sustained reasonable domestic pricing could encourage expanded cultivation among farming operations in the region.
