Pralhad Joshi highlights India’s push for global standards at World Standards Day 2025

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi said on Tuesday that the government is aligning the scope of Quality Control Orders (QCOs) for mandatory certification to reduce the flow of substandard goods while considering the needs of the domestic MSME sector. Currently, over 22,300 standards are in place, with 94% of Indian standards now in line with ISO and IEC guidelines.

Speaking at the ‘World Standards Day 2025’ event organized by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Joshi emphasized that BIS must balance these objectives. He also highlighted India’s rise from the 10th to the 4th largest economy over the past 11 years, driven by reforms.

Joshi stressed that standards ensure safety, quality, and trust, strengthening India’s global market position. He expressed confidence that India will become the third-largest economy by 2028.
