Raila Odinga dies at 80 after cardiac arrest in India
Raila Odinga, former Kenyan Prime Minister, has died at the age of 80. He suffered a cardiac arrest while walking in Kochi, India, and passed away in the hospital. Odinga had been receiving treatment at an Ayurvedic hospital for five days.
As opposition leader, he ran for president five times but never won. His efforts as a democracy activist led to major reforms, like multiparty democracy in 1991 and a new constitution in 2010. He also led protests after the 2007 election, which caused significant violence and loss of life.
