SADC stays silent on Madagascar coup as Rajoelina ousted
The Southern African Development Community (SADC) responded carefully to the removal of Madagascar’s President Andry Rajoelina. SADC expressed concern and showed support for the people of Madagascar. However, the group did not condemn the military’s takeover or ask for Rajoelina’s return. Instead, SADC called for peace and dialogue to solve the issues.
Protests and a military mutiny led to Rajoelina’s fall. The president fled after the army joined the protests. A new interim president, Colonel Michael Randrianirina, was appointed. He promised to restore order and organize elections.
Rajoelina’s removal marks a change after years of political struggle. Many hope for a better future, but challenges remain.
