RM2 billion Madani submarine cable to replace SCREAM system

A massive RM2 billion submarine cable project is about to shake up Malaysia’s internet game. The Madani Submarine Cable Connection, dubbed Salam, is all set to transform how data travels across the country, pushing Malaysia into the future of digital tech. Deputy Minister Teo Nie Ching made it clear that the new cable system is replacing the outdated SCREAM network, which has reached its breaking point after years of service.

As AI and digital platforms explode in demand, the need for more bandwidth is undeniable. The Salam cable will stretch an impressive 3,190 kilometers, connecting Johor to Sabah. The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is driving this ambitious project, one that could finally leave the old SCREAM system in the dust.
