Russian officials get VIP tour of Mandalay sites
Officials from Mandalay greeted a Russian delegation at the city’s international airport on Tuesday morning after the group traveled from Novosibirsk. The mayor, students and government representatives welcomed Governor Andrey Travnikov and his team upon their arrival.
The visitors toured several historic landmarks with Mandalay Region Minister for Social Affairs U Aung Kyaw Moe, who explained the significance of the Myanansankyaw Golden Palace, Kuthodaw Pagoda and Shwenandaw Monastery. The group later flew by military aircraft to NyaungU, where Deputy Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture Daw Nu Mra Zan received them.
At the Bagan Archaeological Museum, the director of the local branch briefed the delegation about preservation efforts for world heritage properties. The Russian officials explored ancient temples such as Shwezigon Pagoda and Ananda Temple before watching the sunset from Nanmyint Tower. Their itinerary concluded with a stop at U Ba Nyein’s workshop in New Bagan, where they observed artisans creating traditional lacquerware items and visited nearby shops featuring these handcrafted products.
