Yangon Tazaungdine fair floods with bargain hunters
More than 630 vendors opened for business on Tuesday at People’s Square in Yangon, where a regional trade exhibition and musical showcase run through the Tazaungdine festival period. Booths operated by industrial zone representatives, cooperative officials and members of the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry offer clothing, food items, ornamental fish, pet reptiles and traditional Thanaka cosmetics. The Myanmar Oil and Oil Producers Association is providing cooking oil at reduced rates, drawing substantial buyer interest.
Business owners attended panel discussions about financing options, quality standards and government assistance programs for micro, small and medium enterprises. Entertainment stages host performances by well-known musicians, disc jockeys and dance troupes while attendees sample meals distributed by the Yangon Region Government, the Yangon City Development Committee and private donors. Shuttle bus service connects the fairgrounds with the surrounding neighborhoods.
Organizers installed waste receptacles and portable restrooms throughout the venue to maintain sanitation standards. The event combines commercial activity with cultural celebration as visitors from different parts of Myanmar gather to purchase local goods and watch live entertainment at the urban plaza.
