Selangor to offer counselling support for students after Bandar Utama stabbing
The Selangor state government will provide counselling for students at the Bandar Utama secondary school after the traumatic stabbing of 16-year-old Yap Shing Xuen. Anfaal Saari, the state’s Exco for Women Development and Social Welfare, confirmed that counselling will be offered to help students cope with the trauma.
Anfaal noted that only 300 out of 1,000 students attended school after the incident, showing how deeply the tragedy affected the school community. The state will also work with the education department to offer support to parents.
She added that the state government is committed to creating safe spaces for children to express concerns and address issues like social media dangers and mental health. A town hall meeting will be held to reassure parents and students.
