Seventeenth body found in Mirpur factory fire

Authorities pulled a 17th victim from the rubble on Sunday, nearly two weeks after flames engulfed a garment factory and chemical warehouse in Mirpur’s Shialbari neighborhood. The partially burned remains of a woman surfaced at the clothing plant where workers had already retrieved 16 bodies since the blaze erupted on Oct. 14.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Makshuder Rahman of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Mirpur Division confirmed the discovery. Families claimed the previous 16 victims after DNA testing identified them as workers aged 13 to 40. Firefighters extinguished the garment factory blaze the same day it started, but continued battling flames at the adjacent chemical storage facility.
