Sofia Council plans garbage crisis fix in 10 days

Tsvetomir Petrov, Chairman of Sofia’s Municipal Council, said the garbage crisis in “Lyulin” and “Krasno Selo” should be resolved within 10 days. He stated that Sofia’s Mayor, Vasil Terziev, will create a plan to fix the garbage problem by next week. Volunteers and machines from Botevgrad are already working, with more equipment on the way.

Petrov explained that “Sofekostroy,” a municipal company, lacks the resources to take on more areas. The council has approved 9 million leva to help the company expand. He also noted that the delay in waste contracts was due to high private company bids and a three-month delay at the Public Procurement Agency.

Petrov said “Sofekostroy” is cleaning the “Krasna Polyana” area, which has been neglected for years. He mentioned that high private bids and low competition are causing issues in some areas. When asked about future garbage collection problems, he pointed to the upcoming plan from Mayor Terziev.

On the debt of “Toplofikatsiya,” Petrov said the issue has lasted for years and will be hard to solve. He also criticized the planned repairs in the “Druzhba 2” district, saying it was poorly communicated and should not happen during the heating season.
