Sri Lanka wins toss, opts to bat against New Zealand in World Cup

Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bat first against New Zealand in their ICC Women’s World Cup match at R. Premadasa Stadium. New Zealand made one change, bringing Bree Illing in for Lea Tahuhu. Sri Lanka’s captain Chamari Athapaththu said the team has struggled with batting in recent games but hopes to play more positively. She emphasized the importance of keeping the pressure off her young players.

New Zealand’s captain Sophie Devine welcomed the chance to bowl first, highlighting their strong bowling performance against Bangladesh. She pointed out the challenge of facing Athapaththu and expressed excitement about Illing’s return.
