Sweden fires coach Jon Dahl Tomasson after World Cup losses
The Swedish Football Association fired national team coach Jon Dahl Tomasson on Tuesday after three straight losses in World Cup qualifying. The decision, effective immediately, was made due to poor results in the qualifiers.
Sweden still has a chance to make the playoffs in March, and Simon Astrom, the FA president, said the goal is to give the team the best chance to reach the World Cup finals.
Sweden’s 1-0 loss to Kosovo on Monday, with a goal by Fisnik Asllani, sealed Tomasson’s fate. Despite having top players like Viktor Gyokeres and Alexander Isak, Sweden hasn’t scored in their last three matches and is at the bottom of Group B. The FA said they will start the search for a new manager right away.
