Tatkon bullock cart contest crowns champions
Officials distributed awards to winners of oxcart races and livestock competitions during the closing events of a major Buddhist festival in central Myanmar on Monday.
Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn joined Nay Pyi Taw Council Chairman U Than Tun Oo at Tatkon Myoma stadium to honor champions of contests held from Nov. 1 through Nov. 3. Twenty-eight teams entered the second annual bovine racing event, which launched alongside the 54th Tatkon Maha Kathina ceremony last year. This year’s edition marked the 55th observance of the religious gathering. Government representatives presented trophies, monetary rewards and certificates to teams finishing in first through third place, along with special category winners.
The minister, who chairs the Working Committee on Information and Development of a Resilient and Strong Social Community, attended alongside council members, government staff, participants and area residents. Festival organizers added the oxcart races and beauty pageant for cattle as new cultural attractions during the annual Kathina robe offering ceremony.
