Taunggyi sightseeing train offers scenic rides during festival

Myanmar’s state railway launched special tourist services connecting Taunggyi with Pawmu during the four-day Tazaungdine Festival that runs from Saturday through Tuesday. The scenic route covers 11.41 miles in roughly 90 minutes each direction, with departures timed to showcase the region’s natural beauty.

Passengers board at Taunggyi for a morning journey that pauses 15 minutes near Bawa Thanthaya before reaching Pawmu Station at 10:30 a.m. Return trips leave at 11 a.m. and arrive back by 12:30 p.m. The six-car consist accommodates 108 riders split between 36 upper-class seats priced at 10,000 kyat and 72 economy spots selling for 5,000 kyat per person.

Festival operations will transition to weekend and holiday schedules once celebrations conclude. Tour operators, travel businesses, and private educational institutions can charter entire trains at published rates for group excursions along the mountainous corridor.
