Tension in Begusarai as party supporters clash

Tensions erupted in Begusarai district, Bihar, on Thursday after supporters of two political parties clashed near the Teghra subdivision office during the nomination process for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. The altercation began when Congress Youth State President Garibdas and Bihar Sports Minister Surendra Mehta, an NDA candidate, arrived with their supporters to file nominations at the Bachhwara Assembly constituency office. What started with sloganeering quickly escalated into a physical fight, with both sides exchanging punches and kicks. Police had to resort to a lathi charge to disperse the crowd, and several people sustained minor injuries before order was restored.

In a separate incident, two factions within the Congress party clashed at Patna airport on Wednesday evening, and internal strife also emerged within the Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) led by Mukesh Sahani. Supporters of rival factions fought over ticket distribution issues, which were intensified by Congress fielding candidates in Sahani’s preferred seats. This led to the cancellation of a press conference, and Sahani is expected to address the media later today. Authorities have heightened security around nomination centers to prevent further violence.
