Terziev says parking reform will stand

Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev stated that planned demonstrations against expanded paid parking zones and higher fees will not alter municipal council decisions, characterizing the changes as necessary for maintaining order and generating neighborhood investment revenue. District administrators have already submitted proposals for allocating anticipated funds, according to the mayor.

Terziev acknowledged citizens’ right to protest while defending the reform as essential for addressing transportation deficits and rising operational expenses. Declining central government transfers and reduced European Union funding for Sofia, which has moved into a different economic classification, compel authorities to pursue alternative revenue sources without implementing aggressive tax increases, he explained.

The mayor emphasized that tangible improvements at the neighborhood level represent the primary objective of the parking policy adjustments.
