Trump, Netanyahu sign historic Gaza ceasefire deal in Egypt

President Donald Trump called Monday a “great day for the Middle East” after he and regional leaders signed a declaration aimed at securing a Gaza ceasefire. The agreement came hours after Israel and Hamas exchanged hostages and prisoners. Trump visited Israel, where he praised Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, before traveling to Egypt for a Gaza summit with leaders from Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey.

Trump said the deal would outline rules and expectations, adding it would “hold up.” In line with the plan, Hamas released the last 20 hostages after two years, and Israel freed nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners. Crowds in Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza celebrated the releases, though the grief of those still lost was felt deeply.
