Trump wraps up Israel visit, heads to Egypt for Gaza peace summit
US President Donald Trump concluded a visit to Israel on Monday, meeting with top officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Isaac Herzog. His trip followed the release of 20 Israeli hostages from Gaza, a key part of the ceasefire deal he brokered. Trump is now in Egypt to co-chair a historic peace summit aimed at signing the Gaza peace agreement and establishing long-term regional stability.
Trump, who declared the war in Gaza “over,” facilitated the ceasefire through a 20-point plan involving the exchange of hostages and prisoners between Israel and Hamas. The deal also included the return of the remains of an Israeli soldier killed in 2014.
While celebrations marked the release of hostages and prisoners, uncertainties about Gaza’s future governance remain. Hamas has agreed to a long-term truce but rejected full disarmament. Thousands of displaced Palestinians are returning to Gaza, though much of the city remains in ruins.
The upcoming summit in Egypt will formally conclude the war and pave the way for recovery efforts, with representatives from multiple nations expected to attend.
