Trump’s Mideast peace plan divides world leaders at summit

Egypt’s president told world leaders that Trump’s Mideast plan is the “last shot” for peace, pushing for a two-state solution and Palestinian independence. The summit in Sharm el-Sheikh aimed to back the Gaza ceasefire and discuss Gaza’s future, with leaders supporting Trump’s peace plan. Trump spoke about a new era of peace, calling on leaders to let go of old grudges.

Pressure mounted on both Israel and Hamas, with a ceasefire in place since Friday. Leaders signed a document detailing rules for peace, but it wasn’t made public. Several leaders attended, including those from Jordan, France, and Britain, but Netanyahu stayed out after Turkish and Iraqi pressure.

Hamas remains excluded from governing Gaza, with a new Palestinian committee set to take charge, supervised by international peacekeepers. The summit set a stage for rebuilding Gaza, with major financial commitments, though challenges remain.
