Trump’s Ukraine stance draws skepticism from ex-defense minister
Former Defense Minister Angel Naydenov said expectations that President Trump would firmly support Ukraine in its conflict with Russia proved unfounded. He noted Trump returned to recognizing the Russian occupation of Ukrainian territories and that Washington denied Kyiv’s request for Tomahawk missiles as a pressure tactic. Journalist Valery Todorov observed that Trump maintains stronger relations with Russian President Vladimir Putin and seeks maximum economic benefits from the situation.
Naydenov dismissed reports suggesting Putin would surrender strategic positions in the Zaporizhia and Kherson regions. Todorov said Russia has not articulated final objectives but appears to seek Ukraine’s political capitulation. The former defense minister expressed skepticism about the Budapest meeting results and stressed that Russia’s ultimate goal remains Ukraine’s complete surrender. He emphasized no agreement should come at Ukraine’s expense.
