Two men detained in Elin Pelin for Sofia burglary and car theft

Two men were arrested in Elin Pelin during an investigation into a burglary involving gold jewelry and a stolen car in Sofia’s “Nadezhda” district. The arrests were made by the “Vehicle-Related Crimes” sector of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The investigation began on October 2 after the apartment owner reported the theft of gold jewelry, car keys, and a vehicle parked outside. Within a week, forensic experts identified the perpetrator.

A 52-year-old man with a criminal record was detained while trying to sell the stolen “Volkswagen Jetta.” The man has been previously arrested for car theft, burglary, and illegal weapon possession. His accomplice, a 44-year-old, was also detained for property concealment. Both are under investigation.

The head of the “Crimes related to Motor Vehicles” sector, Chief Inspector Nikolay Peltekov, confirmed that car thefts in Sofia decreased by 48% in the first nine months of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024.
