US sends Ford carrier to Caribbean
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth directed an aircraft carrier strike group to leave Europe and head for the Caribbean as American military assets concentrate in the region. The Gerald R Ford strike group will target transnational criminal networks and narcoterrorism operations, Pentagon Press Secretary Sean Parnell announced through social media. The Ford ranks as the world’s biggest warship and leads its vessel class, according to Navy descriptions.
The Trump administration maintains the deployment supports drug interdiction efforts, though President Donald Trump has considered military action against Venezuela to pressure Nicolas Maduro. Hegseth revealed on Friday morning that forces destroyed a cartel boat transporting drugs through Caribbean waters overnight. That attack killed six individuals and raised campaign totals to 10 vessels hit and 43 deaths since operations began last month.
