Vazrazhdane sues over Lukoil law, joins protest
The Vazrazhdane party, led by Kostadin Kostadinov, has gathered the required signatures to challenge a law expanding the powers of the special manager at the Lukoil refinery. Kostadinov stated they will file a complaint with the Constitutional Court, arguing the legislation violates constitutional rights to private property. He warned that fully enforcing the law could cause enormous damage, prompting Lukoil to file lawsuits worth billions of leva against the Bulgarian state. The party received support from MECH and Velichy to collect the 51 necessary signatures.
Regarding upcoming protests, Vazrazhdane announced it would join the parliamentary blockade called for Tuesday by PP leader Asen Vassilev, who aims to thwart the budget’s adoption. Kostadinov expressed support but questioned the protest method, stating that a successful occupation requires the more assertive approach his party has demonstrated, not symbolic actions like displaying pink piggy banks. He confirmed his group’s readiness to join if others protest in their style.
