Wah Wah Maung courts Korean cash flow
Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations Dr Wah Wah Maung met with a delegation led by Choi Shin-il, Chair of the Myanmar–Korea Institute of Economic and Security Studies, at her ministry office in Nay Pyi Taw. She highlighted Korea’s official development assistance in agriculture, health, education, infrastructure, and energy, and praised the Saemaul Undong rural development model as a useful reference for Myanmar.
Dr. Wah Wah Maung noted that Korea ranks sixth in foreign investment and ninth in trade with Myanmar, expressing the government’s commitment to supporting investors under the Myanmar Investment Law. She welcomed additional Korean investment, especially given the strong presence of Korean firms in the garment sector, and pledged a stable business climate.
Choi Shin-il stated that Korean businesses are eager to expand in Myanmar and discussed investment incentives, legal frameworks, and administrative support. The delegation included representatives from various sectors, including construction, real estate, digital medical imaging, industrial equipment, telecommunications, recreational technology, and cement manufacturing. Senior ministry officials also attended the meeting.
